Jackie Cardello, CPA is managing partner of the firm of Gelman, Rosenberg & Freedman CPAs with more than 20 years of experience in auditing and accounting in both the public and private sectors. Ms. Cardello specializes in audits of nonprofit organizations including 501(c)(3) charitable entities, associations, private voluntary organizations and various arts, advocacy, community development and other charitable institutions. She oversees the planning and budgeting of audits in accordance with the Yellow Book and Title 2 U.S. Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 200, Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (Uniform Guidance) and/or OMB Circular A-133. She also leads the firm’s employee benefit plan audit practice, including audits of 401(k), 401(a), 403(b), profit-sharing, pension, and health and welfare plans.
Ms. Cardello regularly writes articles and presents seminars to the nonprofit community on topics such as financial management, nonprofit retirement plans and employee benefit plan audits. Her recent presentations include “Financial Leadership: Best Practices,” “Nonprofit Retirement Plans: What You Must Know” and “The 5500 Experience from the Auditor’s Perspective.” Ms. Cardello manages the financial and employee benefit plan audit engagements for several of the firm’s large nonprofit clients. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (and its Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center), the Greater Washington Society of CPAs and the Maryland Association of CPAs. She is also a member of the National Association of Professional Women. Ms. Cardello serves on the community council of the Tree House Child Assessment Center of Montgomery County. She also serves on the Board of Governors for the Greater Washington Society of CPAs.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting at the University of Maryland, Robert H. Smith School of Business and continues to expand her knowledge in auditing and consulting through ongoing professional education and hands-on work experience.
